Clippers Face Brutal Kawhi Leonard Injury News Before Game 4 vs. Mavs
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Because of ongoing knee inflammation, the LA Clippers have listed Kawhi Leonard as questionable for Sunday’s Game 4 against the Dallas Mavericks as they try to avoid a worsening outlook in their NBA playoff run.

Leonard has been managing discomfort in his surgically repaired right knee and played 25 minutes in Game 3, scoring nine points and grabbing nine rebounds. Despite his efforts, he admitted that the knee “did not respond the way he had hoped” after playing 35 minutes in Game 2.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue detailed the team’s cautious approach with Leonard’s condition as the superstar attempts to be available for Game 4.

“He’s just still dealing with the inflammation and the swelling,” Lue said. “We’re monitoring it. Got treatment last night. Got treatment this morning. Continue to get treatment tonight.”

Lue emphasized the importance of communication with Leonard and the medical team to make the best decisions for his health and performance.

“Right now he’s questionable going into Game 4. I think just doing what’s right by him,” Lue said. “Talking to the medical staff. Talking to him, seeing how he’s feeling and just going from there.”

The Mavericks also have injury concerns; star Luka Doncic is listed as questionable for Game 4 due to right knee soreness, though coach Jason Kidd has downplayed the severity. However, coach Jason Kidd dismissed concerns about Doncic’s knee after Saturday’s practice, describing him as “good.'”

Leonard, who missed the final eight games of the regular season and the first playoff game, remains hopeful about his recovery but acknowledges the process hasn’t gone as planned.

“It just didn’t respond the way we wanted after the first game,” Leonard said. “But you know, we’re going to get it right. Time will tell, but we’re doing all the right things.”

Despite the uncertainty, Lue mentioned that if Leonard plays, his minutes will be carefully managed.

“If he’s hurting and he can’t go, then he just can’t go,” Lue said of doing what’s best for Leonard and the team. “To be determined,” Lue said. “It’s always going to be a restriction. It’s always going to be making sure we do right by him until he’s 100 percent.”

As the Clippers prepare for Game 4, Leonard’s availability and condition continue to be critical factors in their playoff campaign.
