Kareem Elgazzar/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cincinnati Reds are 5-4 on the year and heading into a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers who are 6-2 on the year. The Team has been dealing with plenty of adversity already in this young season but appears to have been hit once again. the team already has T.J. Freidl, Matt McLain, and Noelvi Marte missing time this year. They have Nick Lodolo working his way back from injury down at Triple-A they even saw Edwin Arroyo lost for the season before Spring Training even finished.

RHP – Tejay Antone

The Reds have placed Antone on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation after throwing just one pitch in the game. Last year he appeared in five games making one start with a 0-0 record. He only threw 5.2 innings allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and struck out seven last year. In his career, he has made 45 appearances with five starts with a 2-3 record. In total he’s thrown 76.2 innings allowing, 42 hits, 21 earned runs, 35 walks, 96 strikeouts, a 2.47 ERA, and a career 1.00 WHIP. So when he’s healthy Antone is a valuable arm to this Reds pitching staff.

RHP – Carson Spiers

The Reds have recalled Spiers from the Louisville Bats in a move paired with the designation to Antone for his injury. So far in Triple-A Spiers has pitched in two games, throwing nine innings allowing, nine seven hits, seven runs, three walks, and striking out 10. He has a 7.00 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in two games with Louisville. Spiers appeared in four games last year for the Reds making two starts in 13 innings of work. He had zero wins and one loss last year. He had a 6.92 ERA and a 1.92 WHIP on the season with the big club. He allowed 18 hits, 10 earned runs, seven walks, and struck out 12 in his time in the majors last season.

Wrap Up:

While the Reds were hopeful for a healthy season from Antone they will have to wait to see how his elbow inflammation shakes out before counting on him rejoining the bullpen. The 26-year-old Spiers will look to provide value to manager David Bell as he continues to piece together his bullpen in the early part of the season.
